SPIRIT-- a beautiful Arabian stallion so abused, the owner who rescued him felt he must be put
down unwilling to endanger others.  He will forever be the inspiration to keep on doing what I do. In
my heart there will always be a whisper maybe.. somehow.. just give it time.. I am MORE inspired
to keep the work going to rescue horses in the memory of ..SPIRIT...  May there never have to be
another second chance lost.......

GRACIE-- A 21 year old blind Appaloosa was the first blind horse I rescued and learned so much
from, Gracie was with me for 2 years and then lived out the rest of her days with Tandra and KTS
Lone Cedar Rescue. Thanks for loving her every bit as much as we did at Epona.

JERRY-- The most loving and brave soul I have ever met. Jerry was rescued from the Filley Feedlot
and was 33 years young. He was the old man of Epona at 33 years. He flourished over the summer
of 2007 and grew into a beauty. Jerry passed away in Sept and is sorely missed.

Champ-- a horse that died to young, body wasted from lack of food and care " I held your dying
head in my arms. I whispered to you that you are loved, stroking your tired wasted body, my heart
breaking. We were to late for you my friend but will continue in your memory for the others that
can be saved.

1994, this is incorrect and Epona started in 2004 , we apologize for this error.

HORSE RESCUE RECEIVES OVER QUARTER MILLION DOLLAR DONATION

Epona Horse Rescue of Minden purchased over 100 acres of property thanks to a life long horse
lover.   The Donor, who wishes to anonymous, stipulated the funds be used to provide a permanent
home for the rescue.   Started in 2004, Epona Horse Rescue is a non profit charity established to
assist equines suffering from neglect and abuse.   Over 150 horses have been assisted by the
organization since its beginning.   Director Lin Beaune said, “The property will be a wonderful
opportunity for the horses in our area.   Epona is making plans for new educational programs, a
medical barn and short term facilities for additional horses if needed in a neglect or abuse case.”

Recent articles in the New York Times and the Omaha World Herald have pointed to problems in the
horse industry.    Both articles outlined factors leading to a decline in the horse market in our area,
and the country.  Beaune explained, “Over breeding of horses has been going on for some time.   Add
to that he increased costs of living today, like gas and groceries, and people’s disposable income is
gone”.   Hay shortages due drought across the country and increased grain prices are other factors
that don’t bode well for horses or their owners.   Sadly, the organization can not help all the horses in
need, but the new facilities will allow the organization to expand.

Epona plans to complete the move later this spring.  An open house is scheduled for the summer.   If
you are interested in helping Epona Horse Rescue or would like more information, see Epona Horse
Rescue website at www.eponahorserescue.com.

Here is a link to the news story in the Kearney Hub that was printed on March 15, 2008. There is one
error in the story, the cost per horse should be an average of $150 per month not week.
