Heidi's Page
This is page dedicated to a brave mare and our journey to become friends,
This is Heidi. She is a blind mare recently saved when a group of rescues working
with the FOB's pulled 21 ponies  from a breeder in Beatrice Nebraska. Heidi has
been blind since she was a yearling, has had little or no human contact and is
terrified of people. This page will chronicle her journey to learn people are ok and
she can trust...
These were the first time I ever saw
her, terrified of people and running in
a junk yard,
Her body has many  scars and wounds
from running in the junk filled pasture.
Heidi at home , healing and learning to trust...
Day 1  Feb.18, 2008, Staying close to her daughter Missy
Feb. 27, 2008   Eating grain just inches from my foot, you can see my boot in the lower
left corner. Her scabs and sores are healing and she is a beauty, Heidi is very un trusting
and terrified of humans. She sees only shadows and learns quickly how to move safely
around her pen..
Offering grain in the second photo, she is still not ready.
Feb. 24 She is letting me approach a little closer but is still very
afraid.
Feb. 28, 2008.  I sit with her daily, She is very slowly willing to come close to eat and
allow me to talk to her.  Second photo, outside just 3 feet from her this is a major victory.
Feb. 29 and March 1, 2008.  Heidi has been moved into her own pen, she is
bagging quickly  and her yearling daughter thinks she should nurse. They are both adjusting
very well to the separation. Heidi's pen is a pen inside the big pen where her daughter is so
they can still touch noses and smell each other
March 10, 2008 Heidi has accepted the movement of both my husband and myself close to her
pen. No baby yet but she is very close to foaling. We are waiting anxiously for the new baby.
