Horses in Rehabilitation
One of the most expensive and time consuming aspects of horse rescue is
the rehabilitation of the many horses that come to us, wounded in body
and soul.
Be it the body or the mind, the road to recovery is often a long and hard
journey for both caregiver and animal.
Meet the many horses here at Epona that are in recovery and need your
help to regain what they have lost.
This is Mama, we went and picked her up on an emergency basis Dec 22
Saturday, she needed to get to a rescue where her needs could be met.
She came from a loving home that could no longer care for her. They had
been working with other resources to rehome that mare and it did not
work out. She has a body condition of 1-2 and is looking at a long road to
recovery.Mama passed over RainBow Bridge 3-21-08

Meet Charlie the rescue love bug. He is a 20 something belgian
cross that has had some severe health issues and was returned
from foster care when they could no longer meet his needs. he is
a 2 on the body score chart but he is determined to recover.

The Phelps County Horses from Late November Rescue,
Queenie, Little Rose and Starbright
Whimsy
Dusty Rose
Angel
These girls have a long road to recovery ahead, Dusty is doing well in her new home
and is loved , She is gaining weight and we are looking forward to a possible spring
baby.
Queenie is already at a good weight we are simply monitering her and working on her
trust issues. She is a very small mare and will never be more than 14 hands.
Angel, Baby Rose , StarBright and Whimsy have the longest road to recovery.Their
young bodies have to overcome the effects of poor nutrition and parasites. They are
all doing well and we moniter them closely. They have been examined by the vet and
he feels they will recover fully . He believes they will simply be stunted from their hard
beginning.

This wonderful giant is Pete. Or as I
call him, Peter the Great Big . He came from
Indiana, purchased at auction and represented as
a sound horse. Pete has spinal injuries that may
never heal. He has soundness issues in both rear
legs and struggles to gain weight. Pete is the
most loving and gentle boy you will ever meet. He
loves people and treats, Pete may live at Epona
forever , unless someone very special wants a
1700 lbs. puppy.
Exciting news We have changed Pete's diet in the
hopes of improving his soundness.
